How To Tie The Blowback DF Rig

The Blowback Rig has to be one of the longest standing and most effective rigs for presenting bottom or balance bottom baits. Relatively simple to tie, with very few components. Follow the steps Spooner takes to tie up this extremely effective rig. big bunch of Maggots, with the use of one of our handy Maggot Klips.

You will need:

20lb Hybrid Stiff

Size 6 Wide Gape Hook

Medium Shrink Tube

Hair Stops

Small Rig Ring

Razorblade Scissors

Baiting Needle

Krimp Tool

Large Krimps

Pulla Tools

Step 1

Cut a 14-inch length of Hybrid Stiff of of the spool

Step 2

Strip 6-inches of the coating using a Strippa Tool

Step 3

Take yourself a size 6 Wide Gape Hook

Don't forget you can always use smaller sizes if using smaller hookbaits, or bigger if using bigger.

Step 4

Take your Hybrid Stiff and Wide Gape and form a simple Knotless Knot

Step 5

Now cut a 1cm length of Medium Shrink tube and place over the hooks eye

Step 6

Boil a kettle and carefully place the rig in boiling water to shrink the tubing

Step 7

Pass a Small Rig Ring over the point and tie a simple overhand knot to secure it in place.

The ring needs to be level with the barb of the hook.

Step 8

Now take a 0.6mm Krimp, threading the hooklink through both barrels

Leave a small loop so the hooklink can be ‘quick-changed'.

Step 9

Grab your Krimp Tool, apply pressure, securing Krimp in place

Make sure the Krimp is in the allotted slot of the Krimp Tool

Step 11

Trim off excess tag end

Step 12

Tie a simple over-hand loop knot, creating the hair

Adjust this to size of bait being used.

Step 13

Carefully steam the rig straight using Pulla Tools

Step 14

Grab a Bottom Bait and trim of a slither of the top off

Step 15

Do the same with a small Pop-Up

12mm is the ideal size!

Step 16

Mount your hookbaits onto the hair, securing in place with a Bait Stop. You're ready to go!
