SET UP A RUNNING RIG: STEP 1

To make this rig you'll need a 3oz Pear or Square Pear lead, a Korda Running Rig Kit and some pliers.

Choose your lead and then remove the swivel using some pliers.

Attach a Kwik Link to the lead and then clip on a Big Eye Swivel.

Slide a 3mm Silicone Sleeve over the swivel.

Push it down over the swivel and Kwik Link, like this.

Slide your lead onto the main line and then follow it up with a Shok Bead.

Now attach a size-eight Ring Swivel to the main line.

Pull the swivel inside the Shok Bead

Your lead system is now complete, all you have to do is attach your rig.

Set Up a Running Rig Mechanics

Running rigs are perhaps less fashionable now than they used to be, but they're not less effective! In fact, using a setup that most ignore can help you bank more crafty carp.

The running rig gives the fish a completely different setup to deal with than they're used to. Rather than being able to use the weight of the lead to get rig of the rig, the lead simply slides away from the fish when it's pricked. Because it isn't fixed, the fish cannot use the weight of the lead to shake the hook out.

Step 8: Pull the swivel inside the Shok Bead

Step 9: Your lead system is now complete, all you have to do is attach your rig.
