Winter Wonderland - Joe Stephens

Essex big-fish man Joe Stephens has enjoyed a blistering start to his campaign on Bundy’s Pit in Cambridgeshire. After a successful year in his home county, Joe secured himself a winter ticket on the deep East Anglian water. Joe got off to the best possible start, bagging two fish on his first 48-hour session.
He had to wait until the very last morning of his trip for action, which came at 4am in the morning, while it was still dark. Unfortunately, that fish came adrift but at first light Joe was away again. This time the fish stayed on and he was soon recording his first fish from a new water. As he was putting the landing net back together one of his other rods was away and it immediately felt like a better fish. This time the fish that Joe netted was one of the big commons that the lake is famous for.
Joe targeted the water with Tails Up Wanger hook baits, mounted on pop-up rigs made from 20lb N-Trap in Weed Green, ESP Bristle Filament and a size-six Choddy. He used naked helicopter rigs with Sinkers and beads, mounted on 15lb SUBline, attached to 2oz pear leads. A scattering of OCM freebies completed the trap that accounted for the big common.
Hopefully Joe will land some more prime Bundy’s carp before his winter ticket ends. Nice one Joe, keep ‘em coming.
