Steve Rocke banks 13 fish to over 70lb at Gigantica!

Gigantica bailiff Steve Rocke made the most of some better fishing conditions to take a 13 fish catch from the main lake, including a number of big ‘uns!

His run of fish culminated in one of the big mirrors, Chunky, at 72lb 12oz, as well as three others over 50lb during a six day spell, with all but one of them coming at night.

As well as Chunky, he also landed other mirrors of 64lb 8oz - a fish known as Two Time which came at 3pm – Marcela at 51lb 12oz, White Lines at 51lb, Buzzing Fish at 42lb, The Rocke at 37lb 4oz, plus others of 36lb, 26lb, 24lb, 22lb and 21lb. He also included two commons, topped by Dave’s Common at 36lb 8oz, plus another of 20lb 6oz.

Steve revealed: “It was mild with good air temperatures for the time of year, light winds and showers - perfect carpy conditions!

“I started off in a swim called Co’s Point and landed a 36lb 8oz common, but then I saw fish showing across in Alcatraz so I decided to move, as I thought it would produce more bites.

“I had a couple of low twenties the first day in the new swim and then caught steadily after that, with my best 24 hour spell producing five fish, including Chunky.

“All of my fish came on a new Mainline prototype toffee bait which I chopped up and mixed with maize. This was introduced accurately on each spot, with just two or three Spombs on each, and I didn’t put any more bait out on that area until I had a bite – all of the fish from Alcatraz came at 23 rod lengths.

“I had the fish from Co’s on a COG lead set-up with a hinged stiff rig and Milky Toffee pop-up soaked in Bumbleberry Goo. But all the others came on combi rigs incorporating the new Boom fluorocarbon with Dark Matter braid for the supple part and a size 4 hook fished multi rig style, and the hookbait was three grains of Fake Food slow sinking maize,” he revealed.
