Scott Maslen bags a dozen carp to over 40lb from Orchid Lake!

Actor, and The Big Fish Off 1 star, Scott Maslen has been hauling at Orchid Lakes, in Oxfordshire!

Scott, who is best known for his roles in shows such as Eastenders where he plays Jack Branning, tempted a 12 fish haul from the day ticket venue during a four day session, and also lost three others.

His catch included the biggest fish in the lake Tomo at 40lb 2oz, which is Scott’s fourth day ticket forty since June, plus Cluster at 38lb 12oz and a new thirty which Scott got to Christen, and called it Bungle!

He revealed: “I arrived on the Sunday afternoon and found a mussel bed 84 yards out into open water, where I saw a fish show.

“The spot was about six foot or so wide and I positioned all of my rods on it during the night, which was when most of my bites were coming as well as early in the morning. I also fished to some reeds during the day but that didn’t produce anything, but I did manage to catch a few from open water – I even had one when I cast at a fish and didn’t even have a chance to clip the bobbin on before the line pulled out of my hand!

“I baited very heavily with corn and maggot which was a bit different to what most people do at this time of the year, and went through around 20kg of corn, plus two gallons of maggot, and some hemp, during the session.

“I was fishing small Mainline Hi-Visual pop-ups over the top as I think the carp are just sucking up everything when they’re feeding over a bed of particle like this, so you want something that goes in with the rest of it.”

Most of Scott’s fish fell to hinged stiff rigs using a 6 inch boom section made from 25 lb N-Trap, with two inches of 25 lb Mouth Trap to a size 6 Choddy hook.
