Myles Gibson is crowned Carp Talk's Carp Angler of the Year!

Few anglers are as consistent at catching big fish from tough venues as Team Korda member Myles Gibson.

The Cheshire-based angler has now received some of the recognition that he deserves, having just been crowned Carp Talk’s ‘Carp Angler of the Year’ for 2016!

Having caught many of the big fish in his local area he now travels far further afield for his fishing – literally clocking up thousands of miles during 2016 – and has spent the past year mainly targeting the Linch Hill complex, in Oxfordshire, and Berkshire’s Dinton Pastures complex.

The competition runs a bit differently to the usual format where people just vote on the winner, with the top 16 anglers, based upon the catches that they reported to Carp Talk, then going head-to-head in a series of public votes until just two remained.

As it turned out it was an all-Korda final, with Myles going up against fellow Team Korda member Luke Vallory, and in the end it was a close result as both had fantastic seasons!

Myles is no stranger to big fish having caught commons to over 50lb in the past, so it was fitting that he kicked off this year’s campaign with three big commons from Linch Hill, taken during a couple of sessions in February.

That trip produced the Box Common at 45lb 6oz, the Perch Common at 42lb 6oz, plus another common of 42lb 2oz and a 40lb 11oz mirror, not to mention a stunning linear of 35lb 6oz!

He then moved onto Black Swan, on the Dinton Pastures complex, renowned for being a tricky water, and banked his target fish, the Unit, at 45lb 4oz as part of a three fish catch.

Luke Vallory can probably count himself a little unlucky, having also had a fantastic year which included a massive brace of mirrors scaling 99lb.

He started the year off with a run of fish from a couple of smaller lakes, including a stunning old mid-30 common, before moving onto his main venue, which culminated in a mirror known as El’s Fish at 53lb 8oz, plus Baby Bazil at 45lb 8oz during the same session!

Luke was quick to congratulate Myles, saying: “Congratulations Myles you deserved to win, and thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for me as well.

“I’ve got a lot of admiration for Myles with all the hard work that he puts in, and I couldn’t have chosen a better man to be in the final with.”
