Lake Record - Nick Helleur

2009 has already proved to be a good year for me on the angling front because I’ve been fortunate to bank some superb fish from several waters already and we are still in spring so I’m hopeful of more of the same as the year progresses!
For those of you who follow my diary pieces I’ll go into greater detail for the next installment, but recently for a number of reasons I turned my attentions to a huge low stock pit. The fishing is hard but this year with high water levels and little weed following the hard winter we endured has made it the perfect time to tackle the big pits wily old carp.

The arrival of warmer weather pushed the fish into the edge and in a few trips I’ve worked hard and have caught five fish from six bites including a new lake record mirror of 41lb 10oz taken on the new Wide Gape X hooks in a size eight. As you can see from the pics the fish in this lake are truly special and are among the best looking in the country without a doubt.
My good fortune hasn’t ended there as I’ve recently returned from France with a stack of gooduns under my belt including some huge sturgeon - the biggest of which bottomed out seventy pound scales with ease and tested my Supernatural hooklink and Wide Gape X hook to the max during the hour long battle with the beast.
