First Night Fifty - Jason Connelly

Essex angler Jason Connolly has achieved what most anglers can only dream of; taking a 50lb common off the surface on his first trip to a new lake!

Jason banked the famous Snake Pit common (MK11 – the original Snake Pit common, banked by our own Damian Clarke died many years back) on his first trip to the CAPS water, near Colchester. The fish was a new lake record at 51lb 4oz and fell to Jason’s trimmed-down, imitation mixer just a couple of hours after he arrived at the lake. Jason got fish taking freely just before dark and managed to land a 21lb common before one more than twice it’s size fell to his dainty surface presentation, which featured a Korda Kruiser float and tiny, size-12 Mixa hook.
