Clive Gibbins banks his fifth carp over 80lb!

Clive Gibbins notched up an amazing fifth carp over 80lb when he landed this fantastic 82lb common!

The Korda rep tackled Etang du Bois, in northern France’s Champagne region, to land the biggest fish in the lake for the second time – exactly a year to the day after he last caught it at 80lb 2oz.

Clive is no stranger to big commons, having set a French record back in 2010 with the Etang La Saussaie big ‘un at 83lb 4oz, and then re-capturing it the following year at 88lb. He has also landed the Brown Fish from Graviers at 82lb 9oz, plus another fish of 79lb 14oz and a 72-pounder!

Clive revealed: “It was a hard week with a massive drop in temperature, cold winds and even hailstones, which undoubtedly slowed the fishing down.

“Our party of three anglers only managed to catch four fish, but luckily I had the huge common along with two 44lb mirrors.

“The common came from a spot I baited at the entrance to a channel in the Lawn Swim, and I didn’t put a rig on the area until I’d seen fish there. This tactic paid off as both the big common and one of the mirrors came from this spot.

“There is a ‘no leader’ rule on this lake so I was using Dark Matter tungsten tubing with a lead clip and my own slant on a pop-up rig using a size 6 Kaptor Kurv Shank hook and 20lb N-Trap Semi-Stiff.”
