Carp Academy 2015 kicks off with some amazing catches!

The annual Korda Carp Academy has started with an amazing run of PBs and multiple catches to the 30 students fishing the Manor Farm complex in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.

At just over the halfway point, stand out catches so far include a stunning personal best 30lb 1oz common carp to George Costa, from Ware in Hertfordshire, plus PBs to Kai Scott, Harry Theobald and Max Andrew and numerous double-figure and 20lb-plus fish from Damsel, Carp and Winters lakes to the students.

The three-day event, which pairs students up with experienced carp angler tutors to educate them in a range of carp fishing-related disciplines, from fish care to rig tying, was started by Korda boss Dan Fairbrass and is now in its eighth year.

With backing from Korda, Trakker, Cygnet, Kiana and Mainline, each student started the event with a packed goodie bag containing everything they needed to complete the busy syllabus, which covers all aspects of carp angling with an emphasis on respect for the carp and environment.

Event organiser Tom Burns commented: “It’s all kicked off today with lots of great fish caught by the students, including some stunning commons to Danny Fairbrass’ student Dan Cattrall and Matt Pettitt’s protégé George Costa, who landed the 30lb 1oz fish from Winters Lake this afternoon.“

“There was cause for a double celebration for Embryo manager Matt, who not only saw his student smash his PB but also celebrated his birthday on the same day!”

“I would like to thank all the event sponsors for their support plus, of course, Sue and the team for hosting this event and for running such a fantastic fishery. Without access to the lakes and superb facilities, it would be hard to imagine Carp Academy running so smoothly and seeing so many fish caught, resulting in so many happy faces!”

The event is being filmed by a TV crew with Korda marketing chief and Big Fish Off star Ali Hamidi presenting, covering the action as it happens around the complex with catches, tactical insights and interviews from the big name anglers coaching students. A broadcast date will be announced early next year.

Follow the Korda Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for regular updates throughout the last day of the event and catch photos and check this website for a full report later this week.
