Big Fish Hunting!

With a trip, abroad on the cards the anticipation had been building for weeks for Spencer Chunn- as a Gigantica first timer the session couldn’t have gone any better! Spencer explained.

“The fishing had been slow, sitting behind motionless rods I began to wonder if it was ever going to happen? As Thursday arrived I slowly started picking up bites as the fish had simply spent the majority of the week stacked up at the far end of the lake.

“As I went into the last night of the session on 3 fish I was feeling confident of another chance before the early morning pack up, with perfect weather conditions on the cards and finally a decent forecast I was optimistic of a bite or two.

“Just before 10pm my left-hand rod churned-off and I was in! The weather really had made a difference and after playing the fish under the rod tip for what felt like forever I landed a 21lb mirror. Although at the time the fish felt a lot bigger giving a good account for itself.

“A quick rig change and the rod was back on the same spot, as midnight came around the same rod was away again, this fish felt much bigger and after a hard fighting battle the fish rolled into the net. This fish turned out to be one of the lakes stunning 40lbers.

“Tipping the scales to a new pb at a staggering 44lb, to say I was over the moon was an understatement! The left-hand rod had already been extremely kind to me that night so I set about getting it back in place and to top off what had been without doubt the best nights fishing of my life.

“The lucky left-hand rod churned off again and straight away I knew again I was into something special. At 42lb it was slightly smaller than the previous fish but equally was just as stunning! I ended up with a tally of 6 fish for the week including two 20's, two 30's & 2 40's, a fantastic result for a week’s fishing.

“All the fish fell to a simple IQ D rig style presentation incorporating 20lb IQ soft to a Size 4 Wide gape X hook, fished helicopter style on clear Dark Matter leaders with a Heli-Safe and 2.5oz Heli leads. I opted to use Mainline 18mm Link bait tipped with the IB corn.
